The Baltic Sea is not just a window to the world for oil and gas supplies to Poland, but also a place where massive wind farms are currently being installed to provide gigawatts of green energy to the Polish economy. There are also HVDC cables on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, carrying electricity from our trading partners, as well as fibre optic cables, without which it would be difficult to imagine the functioning of today’s world.
In recent years we have seen an increase in attacks on critical offshore infrastructure. So the question arises: how to effectively protect it? There are also very positive developments around the Baltic Sea, with Sweden and Finland joining the NATO in recent years, strengthening the North Atlantic Alliance in our region. During the second edition of the SECURITY OF OFFSHORE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE conference, we will address the issue of protecting the energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, both in terms of oil and LNG terminals, oil and gas pipelines, undersea fibre optic and power cables, substations, power evacuation from offshore wind farms and the nuclear power plant in Choczewo.
It is worth considering how to effectively protect critical infrastructure, how to prepare an adequate legal framework relevant to the new challenges we are currently facing, and how to strengthen the cooperation between different agencies in the Baltic Sea countries.
During the ENERGYSECURITYCONGRESS.PL we will also look at the experiences of Baltic Sea countries in securing critical infrastructure at sea. We will also present the Baltic States’ perspective on offshore infrastructure security.
